Well the season ended with a rather easy victory over Buxworth that elevated the seconds into the top half of the table. Once again the juniors were to the fore, with Ole Madden taking a crucial catch, Ben Stones and Reuben taking two wickets apiece, and Harry Bold hitting a very nature 35. The future is indeed bright, and it needs to be as the first team find themselves in Division One next season. The end of season celebrations were as raucous as ever, with Crompy on fire several times. Unfortunately Luke was also on fire, but that caused a bit of a stand off that has since been resolved amicably. And speaking of Luke, he didn’t quite manage to get the overall league record for victims, but he did manage to win the divisional award.
Back to the seconds and the usual suspects featured heavily, as well as a few notable contributions from juniors. Unfortunately there were only 5 50s during the season, and three of those happened in the same game last week. Of course, there was also Elliott’s ton two weeks ago. The captain led the way with 515 runs, whilst Harry Bold reached 254 and Elliot Simmonds added 220. Ben Williams scored 171 in his first full season, whilst Sam Slack (165), Peter Crowley (164) and Ole Madden (108) all reached three figures.
Colin was the leading wicket taker with 30 victims, closely followed by Gibbo with 29. Peter Crowley managed 20, whilst JJ Goldfinch (11) and Dave Marchington (10) also reached double figures.
The leading catchers were the captain and Gibbo with 7 each, closely followed by juniors Ole Madden (6) and Harry Bold (5).
Full and up to date stats will soon be available on the statistics page.
So we have now put our bats, pads and boxes away for another year, and hopefully we will all be back to share some banter in 2014.
