First XI lose out in table top clash

Saturday 14th August – Whaley hosted Hazel Grove in a division 2 top of the table clash where a Whaley win was vital to keep alive any title aspirations.

On an mizzly afternoon Whaley won the toss and elected to bat.

The Grove opening bowlers took full advantage of the conditions and in excellent spells especially from Nunn saw Whaley in a spot of bother at 15-6. Fortunately extras and the Slack brothers came to the rescue with Sam scoring a classy 44, Matt a restrained 32 which meant a 123ao closing score gave Whaley something to bowl at.

Hope was short lived as Grove made a nonsense of conditions and anything Whaley bowlers tried as they romped home by 9 wickets with some quality batting.
