After The Lord Mayor’s Show

Well it turned out that the two teams that played were as selected, and after last week’s three victories we were brimming with a confidence that only too quickly was proven to be entirely misplaced. The firsts chances of promotion are rapidly slipping away as Clayton called their performance “shoddy”, with poor fielding, bowling and batting. The seconds never really had promotion on the agenda, but with juniors in the side it was up to the seniors to set hem a good example which they patently failed to do. This not only applied to matters on the field, but also to Tommo’s “broken finger”, when really the only thing that he should have done was to “man up”.

I am going to take full credit for the idea of having the annual presentation at Memories Of India a week after the season closes, even though Gibbo doesn’t like Indian food. This will almost certainly ensure that more players attend, and all we need to do know is to make sure all of the trophies are there to be awarded. incidentally, Crompy has suggested that we have an “Ugliest Cricketer” award, apparently dismissing the possibility that he himself could win it.

No news on the progress of Iwo Jima recently, which is a good thing as it means that Crompy is still turning out for the firsts.

Another busy week ahead, with selection tonight, under 16s home to Birch Vale on Monday and under 13s away at Buxworth on Wednesday.
